95% Ethanol is used for surface cleaning and for disinfecting your hands while you work. You also get 99.9% Ethanol Absolute which can be used for mushroom extractions (we don't stock it).
Agar Agar Powder is an ingredient used in preparation of MEA and PDA nutrient plate recipe. It is a gelatinous substance obtained from seaweed and used in biological culture media and as a thickener in food.
Autoclave Tape is used as an indicator to see if the correct temperature was reached in a pressure cooker, when sterilising Sorghum. This product is supplied in a 50m roll for both tape widths.
Barley Malt Powder is an ingredient used in a MEA nutrient plate recipe.
- Add 7-10g of malt powder to 500ml of hot water
- Add 11g of Agar Agar powder
- This recipe will be sufficient to pour 40 65mm petri dishes
A Glass Beaker is used to make an agar nutrient mixture that is poured into a Petri Dish and allowed to set. We call this a Nutrient Agar Plate and it is used for transfers and cloning.
Bran is an essential ingredient to boost your substrate recipes for exotic mushrooms.
Brown Rice flour is used in the substrates mix for cubensis strains
Calcium Chloride is a super powerful desiccant that is perfect for drying mushrooms i.e. ultra dehydration
***Medium and Large gloves out of stock***
Examination Gloves are a must when working with fungi - these are Nitrile and Powder Free
Contaminations are everywhere, so a dust or Face Mask is necessary to take every precaution to maintain sterility.
A Glass Jar (Consol) is used to create master spawn which is done by adding a wedge from a Petri Dish to sterilised Sorghum. This jar has a metal sealing ring and a metal lid.
A Spirit Burner or lamp is used to sterilize your Scalpel Blade before you cut a wedge from a Petri Dish or a sliver from a mushroom you are about to clone.
Gypsum (Calcium Sulphate) is an essential ingredient in the substrate recipes for Oyster and Reishi grow bags.
Contaminations are everywhere, so a Hair Net is necessary to take every precaution to maintain sterility.
Hydrated Lime (Calcium Hydroxide or Water Purification Lime) is used to raise alkalinity and used primarily for cold lime soak method of preparation
An Inoculation Loop is used to disperse spores over the surface of a Nutrient Plate in mushroom cultivation. This Inoculation Loop is 120mm in length, stainless steel, adjustable and comes with 2 loops wires of 110mm. You can insert and extend the loop wire by turning the adjustment thread.
***PLEASE NOTE THE SIZE 42 HAS OUR OLD LOGO EMBROIDERY. ALL OTHER SIZES ARE THE NEW LOGO***
Not only does a white Lab Coat make you look like you know what you are doing, but also protects your clothes and minimizes contamination risks.
Micro Fibre Cloths are used to pre-clean surfaces with anti bacterial chemicals.
Micropore is used for covering breathable holes in home made terrariums and master jar lids.
A 15 gauge piercing needle is used to piece the polypropylene tubing that is used for making cylindrical Oyster mushroom grow bags. After packing prepared straw substrate and Oyster mushroom spawn into 330mm polypropylene tubing, wipe the outside of the grow bag with alcohol, then remove the chipping needle from the packaging and piece breathing holes.
A Nutrient Plate is a Petri Dish with a ready-made Nutrient mixture (see recipe below) on which a mycelium culture will be grown.
Contamination is everywhere, so overshoes are necessary to take every precaution to maintain sterility. We offer two types: plastic elasticized and non-woven elasticized. The non-woven elasticized is a thicker higher quality.
Parafilm is a flexible paraffin sealing film with a paper backing (10cm wide) and is commonly used for sealing or protecting vessels (such as Petri Dishes). It is a ductile, malleable, waterproof, odorless, translucent and cohesive thermoplastic.
Perlite is used:
- to aerate substrates
- to maintain humidity levels
The Petri Dish is used to contain the Nutrient Plate mixture on which a mycelium culture will be grown. See the Agar Agar product for the recipe and method.
Petri Dishes are sold in a sterilised pack of 10 and sealed in plastic.
The polypropylene tubing is either 250mm or 330mm wide (when flat) and is 70 microns thick. Tubing is used for Oyster hanging bags and sold per meter.

Temperature gauge: 63mm stem length, 6mm stem diameter, 0 to 160 Degrees Celsius, 1/2 inch thread size (18.25 mm)
The No. 3 Scalpel Blade Holder is made from stainless steel and the No. 11 Scalpel Blade fits this holder. This is an essential tool and a 'must have'.
The only size we will use is a No. 11 Scalpel Blade. It has a sharp tip and is perfect for cutting wedges from a Petri Dish.
A No. 11 Scalpel Blade is individually wrapped, sold individually, is a sterile carbon steel blade and sterilized by Gamma radiation. This blade fits the No.3 Scalpel Blade Holder.
Sorghum is used as a transfer medium for making spawn and is sterilised in an autoclave patch bag using autoclave tape (as an indicatore that pressure has been reached) and a pressure cooker.
Vermiculite is used:
- to aerate substrates
- to retain moisture
- to create a casing layer
